ZALANDO: Top executives for top positions

Within one year, Zalando was able to successfully fill 20 key positions with a special focus on diversity. Through a targeted approach, structured processes and close cooperation with the Management Board, the time-to-hire was significantly shortened and the proportion of women in the management team doubled.

Initial situation

Zalando needed a reliable executive search solution to fill key management positions, such as general manager positions for various business units and regions as well as a vice president position for the supply chain. A particular focus was placed on the topic of diversity: the proportion of women in management positions was to be significantly increased.

Proceed

Over a period of twelve months, 20 executive searches were conducted with the aim of strengthening the management structure and aligning it more closely with the corporate strategy. Between 100 and 200 suitable candidates were approached for each position.

Address with effect

Appealing candidate profiles attracted attention - especially among top female talent. The recruiting strategy was specifically optimized to appeal to female managers.

Targeted evaluation of managers

The Hogan Assessment Tools were used to systematically test leadership strength and cultural fit.

Close coordination with the Executive Board

All steps were closely coordinated with the company management - for maximum transparency and tailor-made decisions.

Results

  • Staffing time shortened: time-to-hire reduced from 120 to 90 days

  • More diversity: proportion of women in the management team doubled from 15% to 30%

  • Better processes: Executive searches became more efficient and successful thanks to clear processes and measurable control
