With the Military Transition Program, Tesla was able to recruit former military personnel for various positions within the company. The program prepares former soldiers of all careers, ranks and experiences for civilian working life, for example in the areas of production, logistics, sales or IT.
Initial situation
Tesla was looking for new ways to recruit employees for its sites in Europe and the UK. The company was looking for team players with an affinity for technology, the ability to work under pressure and a sense of responsibility.
Solution
A recruitment program was developed specifically for specialists with a military background: the Military Transition Program. The aim of the program was to support servicemen and women in their transition to the civilian working world and to attract them to Tesla.
Program modules
Target group-oriented communication: Development of a communication concept explicitly aimed at former soldiers.
Cooperation with the Federal Armed Forces Vocational Training Service: Organization of events together with the Federal Armed Forces Vocational Training Service, such as information days and career events.
Structured entry: Facilitating career entry through targeted training in the areas of production, logistics, IT, sales or maintenance and support from an active "Veterans at Tesla" community, which supports employees and their families during the transition.
Attractive framework conditions: Positioning via competitive salaries, share bonuses, vacation days and hands-on training.
The result
With the Military Transition Program, Tesla was not only able to tap into a new target group, but also counter the shortage of skilled workers with people who bring team spirit, discipline and technical expertise. At the same time, the social contribution is underlined: former military personnel are given a fair chance on the civilian job market.
One example of the success of this program is the Gigafactory Berlin, which has been actively recruiting members of the German Armed Forces since November 2022 and offering them jobs after completing their military service. The first participants have already started work in areas such as logistics, maintenance and security.
